A prepaid card looks like any normal credit or debit card, with a card number, signature strip and chip. However, it does not provide you with a line of credit. You can't borrow money with a prepaid card - This encourages you to only spend what you load.
The Acorn Debit MasterCard® does not have an overdraft facility. The advantage of this is that it encourages you to only spend what you load. This card comes with some of the convenience of a debit card. Using the Acorn Debit MasterCard could help you control your money.
With your Acorn Debit MasterCard, not only can you pay for your weekly shop, you can withdraw cash at ATM machines worldwide, shop online and by phone.
Taking it one step further
Why not request a second Debit MasterCard that is linked to the same Acorn account? This could be ideal for a member of your family or partner and could help to keep spending to a set monthly allowance. (Minimum age for secondary card 13)
Remember to load money onto your Acorn Debit MasterCard before you spend.
You can talk directly to your experienced account manager, they are available to give you sound advice on your current account. They'll help take the stress out of managing those monthly bills. Simply tell your advisor what needs to be paid and they'll do the rest. They'll set up all the necessary standing orders and regular payments from your account and help you manage your direct debits to ensure you'll never incur any more costly overdraft or "bounced"† or unpaid referral fees.
Managing Your Spending
After all of your bills are taken care of, the remaining balance from your wages can be moved to your Acorn Debit MasterCard®. This process can be automated once the account is setup, using your online account management centre to create "rules". These rules tell the system what percentage of your wages should be placed in your bills account or on your Acorn Debit MasterCard as spends. You will be able to manage these rules yourself to match your requirements. We will help you with this when you call to activate the account.
Pay in at a bank or Post Office branch
We've teamed up with a leading high street bank to allow you to pay in cash or cheques at any of their branches. All you have to do is take your cash and cheques to your nearest Barclays branch and pay in using your pre-printed GIRO.
You can also pay in cash at any branch of the Post Office using your own personal barcode. Simply download and print your barcode, take your cash and your barcode to any Post Office branch and pay your money in over the counter. Unfortunately, you are unable to pay in cheques using the facility at the Post Office. Cash Paid into your account via Post Office branches will be credited to your billing account immediately upon receipt.
